Fixes issues with video playback and text rendering in iOS 14.
The games super fun the only problem is we dont get the video to play but the game works and the developers are still fixing bugs after a long time so Im glad they are still improving.
If you like the game, this is a great way to play the game. Enjoy yourself.
We like the game but would love controller support. We have trouble playing with screen controls so it makes us reluctant to choose Vay when we could play Lunar which has controller.
Overall, the game is decent. Our only real gripe is magic is mislabeled. We thought that our casters were getting duplicate spells for some reason, but when we clicked on then they did other things with more mp cost. For example, Pottle had a second mend on his menu for 2 mp. If that is selected in combat, it makes the team escape combat. We really hate having to click spells to find out what they do and how much they cost. Second minor gripe, we had items that are for use in combat that either would not show up in the item menu or would not let us click them, such as devils spark.
At the time of release, controller support was not supported in iOS. That said, if the developers of this port can keep up with the iOS changes that have run many games into the we OS graveyard than they could take the extra time to add controller support to this title which would make it a much more enjoyable experience. In terms of the game itself, there are much better iOS RPG games to play on the platform at this point and unless you are aiming at nostalgia or curious about the Sega CD, this is a title better off dismissed for more relevant gaming experiences.
Id like games like this we love Jay RPGs the fact that this 90s JRPG is ported so well for such a good price on iOS a you cant pass it down specially if you love RPGs and hand held RPGs this game brings back memories we have the originals we have a few ports of this game and this is A very good port we would highly recommend this game.
Would love to see Albert odyssey, shining the holy ark and lunar 2 eternal blue please!!!!! Such wonderful pieces of art should be able to be shared and played. Can we get some controller supports too.
Bought it at App Store launch day in July 2008 when it was $4.99. No regrets! Great game. Love that we can change the names of the characters to the original ones from the Sega CD version by Working Designs. And change the sprites. Love hard mode as its unlocked after you beat the game once.
Totally worth it but the controls are bad.
Ill give it 3 stars for now and a final rating once we’ve played through. The only real issue we have with the game is with the cutscenes. We can see them queue up but then the player closes and Im back in the game. It skips it completely. Im having to use YouTube to watch the cutscenes as we play. We’ve rebooted our phone. We’ve tried starting a new game. Same results. IPhone 11. IOS 13.3.1.
Great game but the controls are very irritating. Tap the screen for where you want the character to move to. Its horrible… Can we have a touch screen joystick please?
Good classic game but the developer could have updated the characters portrait. Looks like pictures our 8 year old drew… Lol. Added a story update saver so players know were to go. We had to leave the game for a couple of weeks and when we restarted the game, totally wasnt sure where we were in the storyline. Little things like that would have made this classic more enjoyable.
Poor updated battle graphics and touch controls. Menu interface ruins the immersion. A basic port of the Sega CD version with better touch controls wouldve sufficed for $0.99. Lunar, Phantasy Star, and Shining Force offerings on iOS are a better way to experience classic Sega JRPGs.
When buy weapons or armor when there r in the first stot cant equip it pls fix it.
Controls and overall game play are crap.
Im not sure if all the cut scenes will skip, but we dont even feel like playing it to find out. The anime aspect of this game is something we loved and you rarely see anymore. For us, its unplayable until that is fixed.
We just get a black screen and audio. Sounds like a cool story.
So after creating a new file the games audio plays but the screen stays black, no visuals. We’ve tried running the game many times, updated iOS, still does the same thing. LIST THIS AS INCOMPATIBLE WITH 2020 IPAD PRO BEFORE PEOPLE WASTE THEIR MONEY.
The game is a classic RPG with some cut scenes to watch. The game is also long enough to play. Each character has its own magic set. The game also swaps out a few character along the story line. Those that left will leave forever, so watch out. The game has a bit of balance issue between physical and magical damage. Magic is the way to go all the way especially from mid to end game. Magical damage is much higher and no resistance to magic type whatsoever. Weapon with better effect against certain monster type are bugged and doesn’t seem to be that effective. Gear that has “can prevent” isn’t that good at all. Gear that reduce elemental damage is also worthless. The control is awkward and you could get stuck in certain places. One spot is on an air ship where the chest is next to the ladder. Luckily, there is another way to get to the same place. That’s the reason we deduct 1 star due to this balance issue.
Great game when it was on the sega cd. And a great game now!
Great game, and great port. It’s interesting how the’ve adapted the controls to the touchscreen. We think it works well on the most part. Now all they need is to port the other Working Design games like Lunar to the iPhone.
Now that the bugs are fixed, we think Vay is great. Its easily one of the best and most underrated RPGs on the iPhone.
Like the game a lot, but the controls need a D-PAD. Thanks a lot for the attention.!!!!*****
Lets see some more great games! Eternal blue, dark wizard, shining force CD. We love you !
Played all the way through this to the end. (Double digit hours of play). Good game play and story and great value for the price. Controls took a little getting used to but once you figure them and the game mechanic out it’s a great JRPG for anyone who loves this genre.
One of our most played games on iSO, takes us back. Great port.
One of the few games we have that works without mobile data. Reminds us of SNES Final Fantasy. Love it.
With the update game now has acceptable controls, and is now VERY playable. Highly recommend on length allow.
Brings back great memories of the sega cd and the 16bit era RPGs.
We’ve read a lot of complaints about controls. You tap the tile you want to walk to / interact with, and you double tap in a direction to run that direction . Tap once to stop, then move to the newly tapped spot. It’s not perfect, and it’d be nice if there was a d pad/ action button option, but we’ve gotten used to it 2 hours in and it feels natural now. Still the occasional missed click/tap, but we’ve played many worse-controlled games out there. That said – devs, it’s worth architecting a dpad/buttons scheme to get the ratings up, cause this is a great game. Visual style is kinda weird/inconsistent, but we got used to it pretty quickly. Love the animated monsters and cheesy sega cd era cutscenes. It’s decent difficulty side, but the encounter rate is wildly variable. Might go 3 screens, might go 3 steps. Overall, we’re a few hours in and having a great time! Paid a buck – way worth it. Also, they redid the menu in a very apple settings-menu-ey way, and it looks bizarre but moves quickly. All in all, a ton of fun. Happy to support this dev – more like this please 🙂
This is a fun game, great Sega CD translation.
We bought this because we wanted to give the folks who made the awesome Lunar port more money. This game is fun and ported well. We really just want Eternal Blue.
For some reason we cannot fathom we were looking up old Working Designs games and noticed there was an iOS port of Vay. We owned, and we fact still own, the SegaCD version of this game. The control scheme is atrocious but we couldn’t pass this game up for $0.99. Other than the fact that movement is highly annoying this is an amazing classic RPG.
Can be a bit easy at times, but very enjoyable overall. Loved the myriad sexual and real world references throughout the game, hated the repetitious music (although tracks like Lorath Castle and Boss Battle are great). Worth playing.
Had a lot of fun playing this game, really took us back to the days of grinding through Final Fantasy games, which we think is a perfect platform for iOS. Got through the game pretty quickly and was able to level at a good pace without too much wandering (it’s easy to power level at the end as there are a ton of encounters and all reap high exp – jumped 15 levels between the last castle and the final battle just trying to get there). Unlike most of these reviews we thought the controls were just fine for a touchscreen and wouldn’t have been any better with a d-pad. It was a little frustrating the first few minutes, but once you get in to the game it because almost intuitive – not perfect but it definitely worked for us. Now the bad. Some of the cut scenes at the end didn’t have audio, which is odd because the rest did. Had to look them up online to get the effect, which kinda sucked. The story didn’t have the impact other RPGs have had, didn’t really care when the party changed and some of these changes we think we’re supposed to be poignant. No twists that really took us and no real need for exploring or secret areas to find either (to our knowledge), which is something we like in our games. However at $.99 this game was a steal – it fed all the cravings we had for a turned based RPG. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking to get an old school “fix.”
With the update this game runs fine. Touch controls are shakey & can use an update but other than that an awesome game & free. Love the option to change character names. Only gripe besides controls is that you can’t see enemy health. Small but could really help with gam planing against a boss. All in all a great game.
We own both versions of the game, it’s a great port for a phone.
A little buggy, the flare and flame spells always crashes the game if they kill the opponent. Also, the experience gained from the monsters is a little bit exxagerated, what makes you level up too fast, making the game too easy. Other than that it’s pretty nice 🙂
We can’t talk to the shops. Everytime we walk up to the counter and tap the person our avatar walks away:( help if you can please.
Needs a D-Pad update. It’s not that we haven’t given the touch controls a chance, we have. They are just bad. Look forward to the inevitable update…
This game is pretty cool, but the control scheme needs to be changed.
We will gladly change the to 5 star if you could please add controller support, specifically logitech proshell on iphone 5. It would be so nice for this amazing game!! Pretty please!!
Why bother taking the player out of immersion with those iOS type menus? It takes away from the game. Outside of that, the game is pretty decent. We find all the anti-tax dialogue and treasure chest celebrations to be funny. We don’t know any other game that says “cha-ching” when you get a treasure chest with a lot of gold. The only other flaw in this game we found is that magic can be useless; spark only costs 5 mp but does 220 to a boss whereas lightning costs 15 mp and does 260. The dialogue is pretty decent though it may be a little cliche (get special orbs, save the girl and stop the empire) and the cutscenes will give you nostalgia from the Sega CD. We also like the updated character animations in the battles.
Maybe this is a 5s problem, but there is no sound during the cut scenes. Also the controls are atrocious. Even an onscreen D-pad would be welcome. We only give it 2 stars due to our found memories of the sega cd version.
Controls are awful. Needs dpad like Final Fantasy 3 on ios. No sound during movies. Screen does not rotate or flip to your orientation. Minor things that should of been fixed. For $.99, we will probably get our moneys worth, with some aggravation. Shame, would easily be a 5 star app with little effort.
It really really does, please please please, Edit… We checked back to see if you added a d-pad, and still nothing? Im not the only one from all we’ve read, we really want to play this game, lunar is one of our all time favs. And this loos great, we just cant get into tap and walk controls.
